About 15–20% of elementary-aged children need elevated learning support, particularly in reading. Gina helps Montessori schools recognize these children early and offer support that aligns with the Montessori Method.
She works with schools to implement a push-in model, providing support within the prepared environment. Gina also coaches Learning Specialists to deliver reading interventions that integrate with Montessori practices.
The treatment for dyslexia is educational, and research shows that the most effective intervention is specialized instruction.
The Orton-Gillingham approach was developed by the neurologist Dr. Samuel Orton and psychologist Anna Gillingham in the 1930s and continues to be a gold standard in multi-sensory dyslexia remediation.
Like the word Montessori, Orton-Gillingham is not copyrighted, and as a result a range of quality exists with the term "Orton Gillingham" or "Orton Gillingham trained."
Gina has achieved both the Associates level and Certified level with Orton-Gillingham Academy. She is also a Certified Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist recognized through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction, a subsidiary of the International Dyslexia Association.
The OG approach provides customized, personalized instruction that is both diagnostic and prescriptive.
